On Wednesday, The National Bureau of Statistics reported that China's production of the original aluminum (electrolytic aluminum) in January-2 was 674 million tons, an increase of 7.5% year-on-year, the highest level since at least 2015.
China is the world's largest aluminum producer. According to the Bureau of Statistics, China's raw aluminum production was 6.33 million tons in the first two months of 2022.
In January and February, new production capacity in Gansu province was launched, and smelters in the southwest, including Guizhou, Guangxi, and Sichuan, increased production.
The increase comes despite Yunnan province ordering local aluminum producers in February to further reduce electricity consumption due to tight power supplies.
Statistics from the Bureau also showed that China produced 11.92 million tons of ten non-ferrous metals in January-February 2023, up 9.8% year on year.
Data show that China's production of ten non-ferrous metals was also the highest since at least the same time in 2015 February.
